DarkHorse 2007:

To Sound Technologies Telemedicine Clients:

We have now completely merged the Sound Technologies telemedicine service with the web-based telemedicine service, DarkHorse Medical Ventures. We are very excited about this change, as it will improve the functionality of the services that we provide for you. Current contact information is:

Since the initial transition, we have found that with many versions of VetPACS, case transmission is more efficient and trouble-free when you transmit directly into DarkHorse vs. using VetPACS. Please refer to this page:  http://www.soundveteducation.com/Telemedicine/VPConfiguration.html to determine which version of VetPACS you are running. If you are running a version prior to 3.4.12 please call (877) 727-6800 for instructions on how to arrange to transmit directly using Ultracapture software vs. VetPACS software (please note that after January 1, 2008, all older versions of VetPACS will no longer be supported).  If you are using VetPACS to transmit cases, you need to go to Configuration/Update Tables in VetPACS to have the updated categories available to choose from (click here for diagram).

Noteworthy changes in our services include:

  • You will have the option of not having a verbal consult with your cardiology or medicine case. While we still highly recommend a verbal consult for most cases, it will be your option to choose written report only. Please be sure to always provide complete case information if choosing this option. If you would like to have a verbal consult for a cardiology or medicine case, please be sure to choose that option.
  • Charges for cases will vary depending on the amount of images and case material you send. This change is being made to more evenly proportion your cost with how complicated and time-consuming an individual case is.
  • Cases categorized as “Ultrasound” will be sent to a radiologist. If you would like a medicine consult on an abdominal ultrasound case, please classify it as “Internal Medicine” or “Medicine”.
  • All ECG services have successfully been transferred to DarkHorse over this past month, and we are pleased to announce that things have gone very well. A new case submission form is available with all of the updated choices and contact numbers. Click here to go to a copy of the new form.
  • There is a pricing change for all services, and some services have been added. Please take note that image fees and megabyte storage fees have been put into effect starting September 1, 2007. These fees have been instituted to try to improve the quality of exams as well as to cut down on unnecessary imaging needing to be read by the specialist.  We encourage general practitioners to ask for feedback on their ultrasound exams to try to help improve the quality of medicine being practiced. Exam images should be compressed if possible. All questions pertaining to compression should be directed to either DarkHorse or Sound Technologies technical support teams.
  • As of October 1, 2007 there will be a charge for technical support issues that are addressed after hours and on weekends. The technical support person will investigate the origin of the issue to determine whether there will be a charge for fixing the issue after hours. All issues pertaining to the website or VetPACS will be addressed in a timely fashion. All non- emergency problems will be taken care of on the next business day. The charge is $95 per incident until completion. Technical support packages are available on a monthly and yearly basis for the licensed platform groups. Any questions pertaining to technical support charges should be directed to 877-727-6800 or support@darkhorsemed.com.

All current telemedicine clients now have accounts on www.darkhorsemed.com. Please call (877) 727-6800 or e-mail info@darkhorsemed.com to obtain your username and password. Once you log in, you’ll be able to access all of your cases, images and specialist reports.
