Job opportunities in telemedicine
Telemedicine Consultant positions are now available for specialists board-certified in small animal internal medicine who are interested in joining our team.
Telemedicine consultation provides a great opportunity to increase and vary your current caseload. Most specialists find that this is a welcome change of pace from seeing cases in the clinic, and the service enables internal medicine specialist input into a variety of cases seen in general practices nationwide.
Internal medicine telemedicine cases will often include case history, physical exam findings, lab work, radiographs and abdominal ultrasound images and video clips. A typical consultation provides advice on:
- Ultrasound imaging technique and image interpretation
- Generation of a problem list
- Generation and prioritization of differential diagnoses
- Creation of a diagnostic and therapeutic plan
A verbal phone consultation can be requested by the rDVM, and a written report is always completed by the specialist to summarize the interpretation of the case and clinical recommendations. Many of our telemedicine clients have been to our ultrasound education seminars, and follow a methodical ultrasound scanning protocol.
The time commitment to read telemedicine cases can be customized to fit into a specialist's current schedule. Some consultants read a few cases a day, fit in-between seeing cases in a clinic, while others designate a 2-10 hour block of time to reading as many cases as is feasible. There are currently shifts available during weekdays, as well as some during evenings and on Saturdays.
