Overview of services

A Nationally Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS: http://www.ardms.org/) staffs each mobile operation.  These highly skilled sonographers obtain ultrasound images and video clips as per a standardized protocol and transfer these images via the internet to one of our board-certified specialists for review.  A complete history, laboratory findings and radiographs are also included for the specialist to review with the ultrasound images. A verbal consult is given within one business day, usually within hours of submission.  A thorough written report for each case is faxed to the clinic within one business day.

The following services are provided in each of these markets:

  • Complete abdominal ultrasound
  • Complete cardiac ultrasound with color flow and spectral Doppler
  • Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates and core biopsies
  • Trans-telephonic ECG recording
  • Systemic blood pressure measurement (Doppler)

Mobile Imaging Services Request Form
This form is to be submitted to the sonographer at the scheduled appointment.  Please provide any additional case information to the sonographer, i.e., CBC, chemistry panel, radiographs, etc.  All of the case information will be forwarded to the appropriate board-certified specialist, ensuring an accurate diagnosis.

Patient preparation recommendations:

For All Ultrasound Exams:
It is usually necessary to remove hair overlying the areas to be examined with ultrasound.  Removing the hair ensures positive contact between the skin and the ultrasound transducer and greatly improves the image quality of the study.  Please confirm permission to clip hair with the pet owner prior to the exam.

Abdominal Exams:

Clip should extend from the xiphoid caudally to rim of the pubis.  Lateral margins should extend far enough to allow visualization of both kidneys.

Cardiac Exams:

Right side should be clipped.  Clip area should be rectangular in shape, extending from the sternum dorsally to several inches above the olecranon, and from the 4th rib caudally to the 7th rib.  The sonographer may clip the left side as indicated.

It is sometimes necessary to sedate (or in rare cases, anesthetize) patients in order to perform an accurate ultrasound study.  Please confirm permission to sedate with the pet owner prior to the exam.  Please advise the scheduling office if you anticipate that sedation will be necessary so that the exam can be scheduled earlier in the day.

Abdominal Ultrasound Exams & Food Intake:
It is necessary to restrict ALL solid food intake for 12 hours prior to the time of the scheduled exam.  The patient may have access to water during this time.

Fine Needle Aspiration and Tissue Core Biopsy Procedures
Ultrasound guidance during fine needle aspiration and tissue core biopsy procedures insures safe, efficient retrieval of accurate tissue samples. Sound Technologies sonographers are available to provide the practitioner with ultrasound-assisted guidance during these procedures.  Please perform at least a CBC prior to any fine-needle aspirates, and a CBC and coagulation profile prior to any core biopsy procedures.
